Welcome... to The Lord Cares Pharmacy
"Where caring for others is not just our mission, it's our passion!"
Dispensing Help & Hope for the Uninsured
WHO?  TLC Pharmacy – is a Non-profit pharmacy operated by a dedicated team of volunteers who are dispensing help & hope for low-income, uninsured Patients by providing access to medication and education.
Our Mission is to compassionately advance the health and well being of the low-income uninsured & underinsured population by operating a licensed pharmacy that provides lifesaving medications, healthcare advocacy and related educational and preventative health practices services regionally.
Our Vision is to compassionately improve access to health care for people in our community through education and lifesaving medications.
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
WHAT?  TLC is a Community Pharmacy that is a ministry of local evangelical Christians acting as the hands and feet of Christ. This is a licensed pharmacy staffed by volunteer medical professionals and administrative help that provides access to medication and patient education for those with nowhere else to go. TLC has over 55 volunteers from several different segments of the community. The pharmacy is staffed with volunteer Pharmacists, pharmacy techs, and administrative volunteers.
WHY?  To help prevent the hurting from having to make the following decision:

That is the stark choice that faces more and more members of our own community.  As costs of prescription drugs continue to rise and the numbers of uninsured reach all time highs, providing a source for life-saving prescription drugs becomes critical.

In El Paso & Teller County, Colorado, TLC serves as a Community Pharmacy dispensing free prescription medication to our neighbors who are uninsured. Residents of the county can qualify for our services if they are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level. At our location in Colorado Springs, we do not have doctors on staff so you must have a prescription written by a doctor to apply. If you believe that you may be eligible for help with your prescription medication, please call us at 719-596-4449.   We can screen you on the phone to let you know how we may be able to assist you.
HOW?  Conversations within the community lead to the formation of a team of experts that got the pharmacy off the ground. This team formed an advisory board. Additional volunteers were recruited, a donated facility was secured from Academy Women’s Health Group and within 1 year (January of 2010) a licensed pharmacy was open.
TLC provides these medications primarily three ways:
1. Donated medications. These medications have been under the supervision of medical professionals, and can now be dispensed from TLC.
2. Pharmaceutical companies that donate bulk medications directly to TLC to dispense.
3. Purchased. The remainder of the pharmacy’s drug formulary are from medications that are purchased using donations from within the community.
Although executive oversight is provided by OBBC, TLC is truly a community pharmacy with collaboration from over 25 organizations. TLC is also a member of Community Health Partnership (CHP) & C.A.T.C.H. (Coordinated Access to Community Health) which is a collaboration of health care professionals working in community to address the access to health care needs of the uninsured in El Paso & Teller counties.
WHERE? TLC Pharmacy moved into a new facility at 555 E. Costilla St, Colorado Springs Co 80903 in May of 2010 and plans to purchase it.
WHEN? Our current hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
OUR NEXT STEPS are to continue to increase our volunteer base opening one additional evening a week. We will increase our drug formulary through IPAP participation, and using the new legislation to develop a community system of collecting unused medications. Our goal is also, to centralize and reduce duplication of pharmacy assistance within existing community organizations stretching their budget dollars and freeing up those agencies to focus on what they do best.
